Children Learning Through Outdoor Experiences

Why ChLOE?

Children Learning through Outdoor Experiences (ChLOE) is a national network of outdoor education sites offering experiential STEM learning experiences through positive youth development. Our collaborative network includes local school districts, private schools and home schools, and land grant universities nationwide. ChLOE students experience STEM on the ground, through hands-on agriculture and natural resources experiences.

What We Do

We work with like-minded individuals and organizations, sharing our passion and energy to:

  • Teach students understanding and respect for outdoor places they may otherwise never experience
  • Enhance K-12 students’ understanding of the science, technology, engineering and math of food and natural places
  • Inspire a diverse population of urban, suburban and rural kids to enter STEM professions, especially in agriculture and natural resources

ChLOE works with STEM teaching farms at facilities owned by organizations committed to community service, education, agriculture, and conservation. This includes places like 4-H Centers, Experiment Stations, FFA facilities, and privately-owned research and teaching farms. Hundreds of such facilities exist across the U.S., many of which are underutilized and seek ways to increase relevance, grow financial solvency, and provide value to stakeholders. ChLOE can contribute to the future success of these centers, while advancing issues important to education, agriculture, and conservation. Through our efforts, ChLOE can enhance the viability of legacy organizations that serve education, agriculture, and conservation.
